Description

The Home Garden Starter Triple Pack is three seed packets and a growing guide created for the home gardener who’s done guessing. The guide includes the six things every garden needs, sun, soil, rain, wind, heat, and spacing, explained in plain English, with experience and research to back it up.   Laura’s Dirt on the Driveway method for starting seeds without a greenhouse gives you a planting strategy for growing all the seeds in this guide. You’ll get Laura’s personal growing notes for ten beginner-friendly seeds – 7 plants from the packet and 3 bonus plants Laura always has in her garden.

This starter pack includes:

  • The Garden Basics and Why you need them – Sun, Soil, Rain, Wind, Heat, and Spacing
  • How to Start your Seeds – no greenhouse or fancy tools
  • Plant Pages – Basil, Beans, Calendula, Cucamelon, Cucumber, Dill, Nasturtium, Pumpkins, Sunflowers and Zinnias – how to grow, how to use, how to harvest, troubleshooting and favorite varieties
  • Temperature Chart – so you know when it’s safe to plant
  • Planting Calendar – you’re not “too late planting” these seeds until nearly July
  • Two hand-drawn garden layouts — a single seed packet fits in just 12 square feet, three packets fill a standard 4×6 raised bed. Pumpkins trail into the lawn so they don’t take up garden space.

I grew up in a family that all had lush, beautiful colorful gardens. I grew the hostas and shasta daisies just fine, but I never quite got the hang of growing a food garden in my city backyard. We had the sunshine, I’d added timers to soaker hoses but my results were lackluster at best, fried tomato plants at worst.

In my first year on our country acres I grew a small garden with just green beans and basil (seeds I had never planted in the city garden). That first year my black lab, Clementine, ate the green bean plants and the basil turned black before I got to use it.

I didn’t know that soil mattered or that covering the garden with mulch would have helped my city garden. I didn’t know that I could have been harvesting basil all season and that basil plants die at 45*F, not at 32*F (frost).

This guide isn’t just something I learned from books or farmers… it has all of these experiences (and more) behind every word.

I’ve failed at growing plants.

I don’t like to make compost with plants that should have been in my garden.

I hate wasting seeds because they rotted in the ground before sprouting.

This guide has all the garden basics I earned on my way to beautiful and lush food gardens.

I can’t promise you success this season. But I can give you the basics I wish I had when I started growing more than hostas and daisies.

I’ll tell you what the plants need. What grows next is up to you.

Your garden will have its own adventure this year. Weather, timing, and yes, whether your toddler has discovered how fun it is to pull things out of the ground. All of these experiences shape what happens. Always use your best judgment for your own family and garden.
